Insurance
Coverage
Therapy fees may be covered under your benefits plan. Check with your provider before your scheduled appointment to learn how much coverage you have and whether you need a specific designation, such as Psychology, Social Work, or Registered Counselling Therapist.
Doing this before your appointment will help you maximise your sessions, plan ahead, and save money. It also ensures there are no surprises when you begin therapy.
We are pleased to offer direct billing for Blue Cross, Manulife, Canada Life, and others. However, if you are unsure, ask, and we will confirm whether we can bill to your insurance directly.
Interns (Qualifying Therapists)
Our intern therapists are master’s level students supported by two senior clinical supervisors, allowing clients to receive high quality care at a reduced rate.

Insurance Coverage
Therapy fees may be covered under your extended health benefits plan. We recommend that you check with your provider before your appointment to confirm your coverage amount and whether a specific provider designation is required, such as Psychology, Social Work, or Registered Counselling Therapist.
Reviewing your benefits in advance helps you plan ahead, maximise your sessions, and reduce out-of-pocket costs.
Direct billing is available for many providers, including Blue Cross, Manulife, Canada Life, and Sun Life. Contact us to confirm whether your insurance plan is supported.
Fequently Asked Questions
How much does therapy cost in Halifax?
The cost of therapy in Halifax can vary depending on the type of service, session length, and the clinician you work with. At Intentional Outcomes, our therapy services are priced to reflect the training, experience, and ethical standards required to provide high-quality care. Detailed information about service fees and pricing is outlined on this page to support transparency and help you make informed decisions about the therapy services available near you.
What happens if I miss my session, and does insurance cover missed or late-cancelled appointments?
If a session is cancelled with less than 48 hours’ notice or missed entirely, the full session fee is typically charged. Insurance providers do not cover missed or late-cancelled appointments, as the therapy service was not clinically delivered. This policy helps protect reserved session time and supports fair access to services for all clients.
Are your therapy services covered by insurance?
Many extended health insurance plans cover counselling services, including individual, couples, and group therapy services, when provided by registered therapists. All members of our clinical team hold a master’s-level degree and provide services in alignment with professional and regulatory standards. Coverage and reimbursement amounts vary by insurance provider and individual plans, so we recommend confirming details directly with your insurer. Receipts are provided for eligible services to support insurance claims.

Do you offer direct billing?
Yes, We Offer Direct Billing at Intentional Outcomes Counselling.
We understand that starting therapy can feel like a big step. Our goal is to make the process as straightforward as possible, including when it comes to payment and insurance.
Intentional Outcomes Counselling offers direct billing with many extended health benefit providers. Coverage, however, varies depending on your individual plan. We recommend contacting your insurance company in advance to confirm details such as eligibility, reimbursement rates, session limits, and whether a referral is required.
If you are unsure how to check your benefits, our administrative team is happy to provide guidance so you can move forward with clarity and confidence.
How does direct billing work?
We are able to submit claims directly to many insurance providers when:
• Your insurance company is one we are set up to bill
• Your benefits include coverage for counselling or psychotherapy services
• Your specific plan permits third party direct billing
Because every policy is different, we strongly recommend confirming your coverage details in advance. This includes checking your session limits, reimbursement rates, and whether your plan includes a co pay.
If direct billing is not available under your plan, if your benefits have been used, or if there is a remaining balance after insurance processes the claim, the outstanding amount will be charged to the credit card we have on file.
Please note that missed appointment fees and late cancellation fees are not eligible for insurance reimbursement and are charged directly to your card.
How do I choose the right therapy service for my needs and budget?
Choosing the right therapy service involves considering your goals, the type of support you are seeking, and what feels financially manageable for you. We offer a range of therapy services, including sessions with supervised intern clinicians at a reduced rate. Our interns work closely under the guidance of our senior clinical team to ensure care is thoughtful, ethical, and well-supported. Our team is available to help you explore therapy services near you, explain how options may differ, and answer questions about fees so you can select a service that aligns with both your needs and your budget.
