Masters of Social Work, Registered Social Worker

Life can be better. I believe in a safe, confidential and non-judgmental environment for us to work collaboratively. Within my practice, my clients feel heard, understood and empowered to create the healing they need.

I work with teens 16 and up who are dealing with various mental health or relationship issues. We work on creating space to get to the core of what is going on by using a number of evidence based treatments. Through support, skills building and a bit of humor, I help my clients become more effective at managing relationship issues, anxiety, depression, life transitions and various traumas.

I don’t see clients as cookies and I don’t believe that treatment plans should be either. Being trained in a variety of modalities, I am able to use these treatment options to create an individual plan.

Some issues are incredibly challenging for us to resolve alone. Therapy gives clients the chance to talk about how symptoms like depression, anxiety, anger, addictions, and emotional volatility, can feel overwhelming and unmanageable, impacting their life and relationships.

Being a therapist provides me with the privilege to help people in a meaningful and positive way. I can help clients develop a positive mindset, connect to their happiness, calmness, self-concept, and a feeling of being content with the mind, body and soul.

Clients develop coping strategies, allowing them to progress in their healing and achieved all their intentional outcomes.

Experience: Michelle completed her Counselling Psychologist degree at Yorkville University. For the past 15 years, she has worked alongside members of Law Enforcement. She has also volunteered at the Nova Scotia Withdrawal Management Program and as a Peer Support Worker with training in Suicide Intervention and Mental Health First Aid.

Doing new things can be scary. Returning to things that have been a mixed experience can be scary, and it can all feel overwhelming. Being engaged in therapy is a big step, and more and more people are finding that a connection to a therapist is beneficial in navigating life’s challenges. As the client, you are the expert in your own life and mind. Together, following a client-centered approach, we will work to explore, support, and facilitate change.

I use an eclectic and individualistic approach to assess, collaborate, and identify your goals to determine a path to move toward success. As a therapist, I work to provide a safe and welcoming environment for clients to develop and enhance their therapeutic toolkit or skill set, with space for all types of emotions. Working together, we will find a path forward to support your personal growth and interpersonal wellness. I believe that everyone can benefit from counselling.

Clinical Social Worker

I practice from anti-oppressive, empowerment, and trauma-informed lenses. I believe strongly in working with clients’ existing strengths to help work towards their goals. For some, this begins with fostering, building, and maintaining an initial foundation of safety. For other, it may include developing and working towards a more meaningful, rich life. By working collaboratively with folks, I aim to help them navigate the barriers they are facing systemically, socially, and within their own communities. I am trained and well versed in working with folks who have experienced a variety of difficulties ranging from anxiety and burnout to intimate partner violence and other trauma and stressor-related issues. I work with clients from a variety of backgrounds and lived experiences and aim to provide a safe, empathetic, and radically genuine therapeutic environment.

Location: In-person & Virtual

Experience: I am a Clinical Social Worker registered with the Nova Scotia College of Social Work. I originally come from a Human Services background, and hold an undergraduate degree in Psychology and Women’s Studies, as well as undergraduate and masters degrees in Social Work. I have been working within mental health since 2005 (e.g., frontline work within residential facilities for adults with mental illness and community outreach), with a clinical focus since 2016.
