The teen years can be hard to figure out.
Today’s teens are feeling more stressed, depressed, and anxious than ever before. This rise in emotional strain affects how they cope, how they think, and how they connect with others. Intentional Outcomes Counselling works with teens to help them feel understood and supported.
The pressure to act like adults while still having fun like kids creates a confusing mix of expectations. These demands make it hard for teens to balance everything and figure out where they belong. As a result, many teens feel stuck between growing up and staying the same.
We help teens build confidence, manage emotions, and develop skills to move through this complex stage of life with clarity and support.

What are the signs that my teen might benefit from therapy?
What are the signs that my teen might benefit from therapy?
Every teen goes through normal ups and downs. Yet when life becomes overwhelming, they may not know who to reach out to. They also will not always tell you when they are struggling. However, noticing small changes can help you see when they may need extra support. We help teens feel safe, heard, and understood as they learn how to manage these difficult moments with confidence.
Do you notice that your teen:
-
Withdraws from their friends or family more than usual? -
Is more angry or aggressive towards people? -
Has lost interest in activities they used to enjoy?
-
Shows a sudden drop in grades or ability to focus? -
Has a significant change in their eating habits? -
Mentions that they are feeling stressed or anxious?

What type of issues can teen therapy help with?
Kids deal with many pressures today, and these challenges can build quickly. Yet whatever they face, therapy can help them make sense of their experiences and feel less alone. We create a space where kids feel understood, supported, and safe to explore their feelings.
Emotional Challenges
Teens experience lots of emotions on a daily basis. School can feel more stressful as they figuring out who they are and where they fit in. In therapy, they have a safe space to talk about their feelings without being judged, and when they’re worried, feeling down, frustrated, or stressed out, we give them the tools to make life easier to handle.
Digital Pressure and Addiction
The teen years are confusing, strange, and scary enough, but throw in social media and it’s no surprise that teen anxiety rates have skyrocketed in recent years. The pressure to act a certain way mixed with the constant exposure to stressful world events can have a significant impact on their mental health. “Just get off your phone” seems like the simple solution, but it’s often more difficult than that for teens, with social media addiction becoming a very real issue in today’s society. In therapy, they can talk through their experience while learning strategies to manage social media use and their response to what they are dealing with.
Behavioural Issues
Defiance, aggression, substance abuse, self-harm, or risky behaviours can be the manifestations of deeper emotional issues. In therapy, we can help identify the underlying causes and work towards positive changes through skill-building, coping strategies, and improved communication.
Family Conflicts
Family dynamics can be complex, leading to conflicts between parents and teens; having a person outside the family to talk to can be helpful. In therapy, teens can share their feelings without worrying about judgment or the fear of disappointing their parents. We help teens learn how to address communication breakdowns, and misunderstandings, and establish healthier patterns of interaction.
School Challenges
School is a big part of a teen’s life, and if things aren’t going well, it can affect their mental well-being. When they’re not getting along with peers or teachers, or if they feel pressure to get certain grades, it can make them frustrated and feel like they’re not good enough. In therapy, we can help them deal with any issues behind their struggle and give them strategies to handle whatever comes their way.
Identity and Self-Esteem Issues
Adolescence is a time of finding their place in the world, and teens grapple with questions about identity, self-worth, and body image. Therapy provides a space for self-exploration, helping teens work through these challenges and be comfortable with the person they truly are.

Questions Teens Ask About Therapy
Will my parents need to know?
We keep everything private in therapy. Your secrets are safe with us. We’ll talk about what you’re comfortable sharing and set rules to make sure you feel okay. If we ever need to talk to your parents, we’ll figure that out together.
How do I know if therapy is what I need?
Trust yourself. If you’re feeling too much, having a hard time, or just don’t know what to do, talk to us. We’re here whenever you need help. It doesn’t matter what the problem is – big or small – we’ll be on your side.
What's the difference between depression and burnout?
Feeling sad and tired are similar, but they’re a different in ways that important to understand which one you’re experiencing. Depression is when you feel really sad for a long time. Burnout is when you’re super tired and stressed out. Our experts can help figure out which one is happening to you and guide you on how to feel better.
What if my parents want to be in session with me?
Family is important, and we get that. If your parents want to join a session – and it’s something you want as well – we can make that happen. But your privacy is super important too. We’ll work together to find a way that feels right for you and keeps your secrets safe.
Are there afternoon/evening sessions available?
Absolutely! We know life is busy, and we have time in the afternoon and evening to help. We want therapy to fit into your schedule, not the other way around. Let us know what works for you, and we’ll make it happen.
